MUSICAL WORK
SJ could literally pen a song about anything in the world. The fact that he could compose on any topic that piqued his interest or effortlessly conjure up a song about any theme presented to him in commissioned projects, explains the diversity of his repertoire.
SJ Khosa
"Most songs I write just for the sake of writing. I create my own titles, and then write, perhaps because the beauty of a landscape impresses me, like for example the Drakensberg Mountains, which inspired me to compose ‘Tintshava ta Drakensberg’."
Such was the variety in his compositions that SJ had a song for virtually any occasion: Greetings Hoyohoyo (Welcome), Farewell (Salani), Chunchani Mindzhwalo (untie your luggage), Mi ya va Runqula (convey our regards), Famban’ Kahle (fare thee well), Yesu I ndlela (Jesus is the way), Xikhongelo xa Hosi (The Lord’s Prayer) and many other occasions.

"(My songs are sung) in many, many areas of life, in almost all areas of life. There are some traditional songs, religious songs, work and related songs, social songs sung when they are drinking beer, playing, etc. Every situation can be represented by a song, if I may say so."
His compositions were based on themes that ranged from simple, everyday objects and events to more serious and current issues.
